Extra paycheck! What do you usually do with yours?

December 2nd, 2008 at 01:03 am

One of the things I like about this job is that although I'm a salaried employee, I get paid bi-weekly. At my last job for a university, I got paid once a month and at the job before that I got paid twice a month(fed. govt). So it's really great to have two paychecks a year that I don't have to pay a single bill out of. In my old life, I would have treated myself to something frivolous but I am through with that mindset and I am looking forward to using my upcoming "freebie" to seriously pay down my debt. Once that's gone, I'll dedicate it to my savings goals. I'm excited.

I got paid bi-weekly at several jobs in my lifetime. The months that I would get 3 paychecks, I would normally just put it in savings for upcoming bills. I really don't even think of it as "extra".

my husband and I both get paid biweekly and I love those months with 3 pays. We usually use our "extra" pay for bills, back to school, propane...

I hadn't even realized that January was a 3-paycheck month! I haven't even thought about it! Since I am trying to live on a budget now, I will probably put most of it into savings.

I get paid weekly and 4 months have a 5 pay week for me.

I put 70% of that check towards my financial goal and try to do something a little special like date night or family for dinner.

Yay January! We'll probably just be boring and put it in the savings account. Or get new gutters.

i get paid weekly but i calculate all my expenses on a weekly basis, so i don't get 'extra' paychecks, as all my bills, rent, food etc are divided into 'weekly' amounts.

I treat it like a regular paycheck and will have an extra car payment, house note, and credit card payments each time.

I usually throw half at the CC dent and half into savings.

I get paid bi-weekly but treat the "extra" paycheck like any other (how boring i know) But it's risky to get into the mindset of it being something "extra," becus it really isn't. It's part of your annual salary that you've been counting on for all your ordinary expenses, so don't forget that.

I put most of it into savings, just like I do any other paycheck.
